Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate
In 1849 the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate arrived in Brownsville and established Immaculate Conception Parish in Brownsville.

Over the next few decades, the Oblates extended their reach north and west along the Rio Grande, riding on horseback across hundreds of miles.

By 1883, the Oblates reached Eagle Pass, marking the westernmost point of their early Texas ministry.

In 1947 a small chapel called Sagrado Corazon de Jesus en el barrio de San Luisito was established.

In 1967 that same chapel will then be elevated to a Parish.

In 1972, just 6 blocks from where the old parish was located, the newly constructed Sacred Heart Parish is established.
